For the past six months, the Park Hospital District Board of Directors and an appointed search team diligently evaluated candidates that emerged from a nationwide search. Once the search was narrowed down to numerous candidates, the search team recommended Brian Herwig as the finalist for the CEO position. The Board then made the decision to accept Herwig as the final candidate and in a special meeting held October 1, 2013, voted unanimously to appoint him as the CEO for Estes Park Medical Center. “In our minds, Brian was the best selection with the right strengths and experience to take Estes Park Medical Center to the next level of quality and growth, said Diana Van Der Ploeg, Vice President of the Park Hospital District Board. He brings a great deal of talent and experience which is key in the management of our hospital and long-term care facility.

His experience includes 12 years in the Promedics Health Care System – Bixby Medical Center, Herrick Memorial Hospital, Thorn Hospital, and Morenci Area Hospital in Adrian, Michigan serving as Site Administrator and Vice President of Support Services, Program and Ambulatory Services, and Director of Material Services. Herwig’s most current position was Chief Operating Officer at Providence Medford Medical Center in Medford, Oregon. Providence Medford Medical Center is a 168 bed-acute care hospital. “The Search Committee is fortunate to have attracted a candidate in Brian Herwig who is so thoroughly aligned with our mission as a community-based organization, said Van Der Ploeg. “ His experience, intellect and leadership skills will be important assets for us in this rapidly evolving healthcare environment, and will complement the strong administrative team already in place.” In addition, the board would like to thank those who participated in the interview process and thank the search team who did an outstanding job in obtaining essential criteria for the position, reviewing applicants, selecting and interviewing the semi-finalists, and then going through another round of extensive interviews.
