Emissions Testing In Estes Park
The State of Colorado will be conducting clean screen/remote sensing operations next week 8/29 through 9/1 in Estes Park. The purpose of beginning data collection is to be prepared in case the Air Quality Control Commission enacts the vehicle emissions testing requirements for Estes Park in January of 2012. They utilize a contractor with “Rapid Screen” vans to test vehicle emissions as they pass. The vans will be located around town in several locations.
A message regarding further testing needs or exemption will appear on vehicle registration notices if they program is enacted. The hearing to make that determination will take place September 15 at Town Hall. It begins at 12:30 p.m. in the Town Board Room. Public comment on the emissions testing issue will begin around 1:30 p.m.
The Town Board adopted a resolution (see at left) opposing emissions testing for Estes Park and will be joining Larimer County officials to oppose the program on September 15.
The emissions sensing vans will be located:
8/29 Monday: Westbound US-34 just past Grand Estates Drive.
8/30 Tuesday: Eastbound US-36 between mile markers two and three.
8/31 Wednesday: Eastbound US-34 between Vista Lane and Hillside Lane.
9/1 Thursday: Southbound SH-7 just past Lexington Lane.
