Elizabeth (Betty) Winpegler

After a hard fought battle with cancer, Elizabeth (Betty) Alice Winpegler passed away on January 1, 2009 with her family by her side at Hospice Care Center in Loveland.

Betty was born to James J. McGraw and Alice J. McGraw on February 15, 1934 in Longmont, Colorado. Betty was raised in Estes Park, Colorado and graduated in 1952 from Estes Park High School. She was also a member of the Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic church. Immediately after high school graduation, Betty moved to San Francisco, California where she worked as a bank teller for five years. Betty then returned to Estes Park also as bank teller. Over the years Betty worked at Crowleys Restaurant, Brodies Supermarket, Herzog’s’and Seybold’s gift shops. Betty has also lived in Phoenix, Arizona, Hudson, Colorado and Wyoming. The last three years of her life Betty lived in Agra, Kansas with her very dear friend Cecil Thomas. Betty and Cecil met while working at the McGraw Ranch while teenagers in 1952 and lost track of each other after that summer season ended. They were reunited in 2004 and rekindled their love. Cecil whisked Betty away to Kansas and they lived happily until her last days.

Betty was preceded in death by her father James J. McGraw in 1960 and her mother Alice J. McGraw in 1993. Betty is survived by her sister MaryAnn Pyle of Phoenix, AZ and her brother James McGraw of Pahrump, NV and Cecil Thomas of Agra, KS her one true love. Betty is also survived by two nephews, six nieces, and numerous great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by many cousins and very dear friends.

We will miss the joy that Betty brought to our lives and the loving, giving person that she was. Betty we will always remember your generosity, love and the wonderful chokecherry jelly you made! We miss you so much.   Any memorial contributions can be made to Pathways Hospice-Ft. Collins, CO. A memorial service will be held at the Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church in Estes Park on Friday May 22nd at 11:00 a.m. (luncheon following)and burial of her cremains will also be May 22nd at 3:30 p.m. at the Loveland Burial Park in Loveland, CO.
