Elizabeth “Bettie” Chamberlin

Obit-ChamberlinEstes Park resident, Elizabeth Esther “Bettie” Chamberlin, age 96, died Monday, December 23, 2013, at Prospect Park Living Center. She was born, Elizabeth Esther Johanson on January 27, 1917 in Omaha, Nebraska. Bettie was raised in Omaha by her parents, Frank & Adele Johanson. She met her husband, Robert Miller Chamberlin, in the church choir and, on November, 23, 1938, they were married.

The couple moved to Denver where Bob pursued his profession as an educator and administrator. While in Denver, Bettie and Bob were charter and active members of the Kirk of Bonnie Brae Congregational Church. Bettie and Bob raised three sons, who all love, honor and will miss their mother greatly. After retirement, in 1974, the couple moved to Estes Park, purchasing the last parcel of property sold by Muriel MacGregor on Dry Gulch Rd. After Bob’s death in 1994, Bettie remained in Estes Park, and continued her involvement in the Presbyterian Community Church of the Rockies, PEO Chapter AV, Red Cross, Estes Valley Land Trust, and the Over the Hill Hiking Club. She was a long time Ambassador for the Estes Park Chamber Resort Association.

She is survived by her three devoted sons, and their wives; Robert (Judy) of Windsor, CO, James (Nancy) of Lakewood, CO, and Thomas (Kathleen) of Paradise Valley, AZ. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, three step grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren. She was a very devoted and involved Grandma, and a beloved “GG.” Bettie was a spark and sparkle in the life of her family and of everyone who knew her. If mischief was to be done, it was Bettie who, more than likely, was the instigator. Her grandchildren have each had the joy of having a snowball fight or face snow washing by their grandmother, while laughing until they cried. Her zest and joy for life will be missed by all, but her spirit will live in her family forever.

A Celebration of Bettie’s life will take place at a time and date to be determined. Memorial contributions in her name may be made to the Community Church of Estes Park in care of Allnutt Funeral Service, 1302 Graves Ave., Estes Park, CO 80517. See www.allnutt.com to send a message to Bettie’s family.
