Duck Central Grand Opening

duckcentralThe nerve center for the Estes Park Duck Race officially opened for business March 30th right across the parking lot from the Safeway Store in Upper Stanley Village.

The Duck Committee of the Rotary Club of Estes Park held a grand opening meeting in Duck Central last Thursday and posed for a group photo out front.

Duck Central is where the 66 charities and organizations selling duck adoptions turn in their money and adoption forms between now and the Duck Race on May 4th. Duck Race Committee members will be entering information from the adoption forms into a computer system that keeps track of the more than 5,000 entries that are expected to roll in.

“Right now, things are pretty slow,” said Duck Central Coordinator Don Widrig, “but as we get closer to race day, this place will become a veritable hurricane of activity. We’ll have every one of our five computers crunching away.”

Widrig stressed that anyone filling out a duck adoption form should be sure to fill in all the information requested: name, address, phone number, and email address. “Sometimes people just list their name and phone number and that’s not good enough,” explained Widrig. “If you win a prize, we need to be able contact you and/or send you a prize certificate. We definitely need addresses.”

Anyone can adopt a duck for $20 from any of the 66 participating charities. Or they can purchase duck adoptions online at www.epduckrace.org.

Just go online and you charge it all on your credit card.”

“We deeply appreciate the generosity of all our major sponsors and merchants who donate money, contribute prizes, and help to make this the most successful general charitable fundraiser in the Estes Valley,” said Marcia “Big Duck” Logan, chair of the Duck Race committee. “We especially thank Wheeler Management Company for donating the space for Duck Central. Wheeler has been a steadfast supporter of the Duck Race each year and we’d be at a loss without its most generous donation of work space. Another key component of Duck Central is our Internet connection supplied by Baja Broadband right here in town.”
