Long time Estes Park resident Duane Ratz (87) died in the presence of his loved ones in his home at Good Samaritan Village on Thursday, January 10, 2013. Duane was born June 30, 1925 in St. Paul, MN and was raised in Worthington, MN. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. After his military service, Duane graduated from Hanover College and attended McCormick Theological Seminary. During his youth, Duane had spent his summers attending camp and working in Estes Park, CO, and in 1958 he chose to make Estes Park his home. Duane worked at the YMCA of the Rockies and retired from his position on the security team in 1990. A lifelong Presbyterian, he was an ordained Elder and Deacon.
He was a member of Presbyterian Community Church of the Rockies where he served as a Stephen Minister. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and N. Marie (Dutcher) Ratz, and brother Paul. He is survived by his nephew John Ratz of Denver, nieces Julie and Joan Ratz of Arvada, his Good Sam family and many friends. A memorial service will be held Monday, January 21, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Presbyterian Community Church of the Rockies.
