Dorothy Ellen Matthey
Dorothy Matthey /Johnson was born August 4, 1914 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Her parents were Carl and Elin (Forslund) Johnson. Dorothy spent her young life in Minneapolis, and was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, Minneapolis, MN. Dorothy married Floyd Matthey on June 30, 1936. They resided in St. Paul, Minnesota and were very active at Zion Lutheran Church in St. Paul, MN. Dorothy moved to Estes Park in November, 2007 to live with her daughter Carole and later moved to Good Samaritan Assisted Living in Estes Park.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter Carole Jaenecke and son-in-law Russ, Estes Park, CO, her granddaughter Beth Hickey and husband Bill, Gallatin Gateway, MT., her grandson Scott Jaenecke and wife Kitt, of Chippewa Falls, WI, sister Pearl King, Mpls. MN, brother-in-law Kenneth Young, Mpls, MN and many nieces and nephews in the Twin City area. She was preceded in death by her husband Floyd, sisters, Jean Young, Lillian Linnell, and her brother Carl Johnson.
Dorothy loved caring for her family, entertaining, Bible studies and church activities, decorating, sewing, knitting, crafts, baking and cooking for potlucks at church. She was particularly well known for her preserved flower pictures that she sold locally and internationally. She was very much a “people person” and loved being with family and friends. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
A memorial service will be held in St. Paul, Minnesota at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to Crossroads Ministries in Estes Park, or to Plymouth Christian Youth Center, Minneapolis, MN.
