Casino Night To Raise Money For School Sports
By: Steve Mitchell, Sunrise Rotary
Play the horses, try your luck at blackjack, poker, roulette and craps, or just come for a good time at Sunrise Rotary’s Casino Night from 7-11 p.m., March 15 at the Stanley Hotel.
This popular Sunrise Rotary fundraiser raises more than $5,000 to benefit the Bobcat Boosters Club, which purchases uniforms and equipment and provides travel and meals for the local middle and high school sports teams.
One person who is bringing his poker face is last year’s Texas Hold ‘Em winner Mark Holdt, who challenged all comers, “Go ahead and make my day.” The club asks for a $25 donation for your opportunity to knock Holdt off his high horse. Seats at the poker table are going quickly.
In addition, the fun night offers raffle prizes, hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. A Chinese auction gives attendees the chance to win gift baskets with prizes donated by local businesses. Record your “black tie optional, Estes Park style” attire in the two photo booths. A DJ will spin tunes for those who wish to show off their moves on the dance floor.
This fun night supports a serious cause. School budgets are tight. Our kids need our help more than ever. Money is desperately needed to repair the high school track and scoreboard, which were damaged in the September floods, said Sunrise Rotary organizer Harriette Woodard. In the past funds have purchased starter blocks for the track team, lane lines for the swimming pool and shoes for the soccer team.
Because alcohol will be served, this event is for those 21 years and older. Entry is free and everyone receives “play” money to gamble at the various events. Sunrise Rotary is recruiting sponsors for the horse race, poker table, roulette and crap table at $250 each. Sponsor and name a horse for $25. To sign up for the poker tournament or inquire about sponsorships, please call Harriette Woodard at 970-586-1040.
Urge your neighbors, friends, and colleagues to support Sunrise Rotary’s Casino Night as we support the athletic programs of our Estes Park schools.
