Brigetta Wallerstedt


Brigetta Gehlhaar Mangler Wallerstedt passed from this life at Prospect Park Living Center on Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2009.  She was 85 years old.

She was born August 14, 1924 in Konigsburg, Germany to Fritz and Hermina Gehlhaar. Her family came to this country when she was six weeks old. She grew up in Grand Ledge, Michigan. After her marriage to Harold Mangler in 1946 they moved to Pinole, California, where she worked as a legal secretary for 23 years. After Harold’s death she moved back to Michigan and worked as a Deputy County Court Clerk, retiring in 1989.

Brigetta then moved to Iowa to be near her son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren. It was there she met Leonard Wallerstedt, whom she married in 1990. They moved to Florida in 1994 where they lived in Floral Lakes Mobile Home Park, Bartow, FL. Brigetta made many friends and enjoyed many of the activities offered by the Park. After Leonard’s death in 2004 Brigetta continued to live in Florida until 2007 when she moved to Estes Park.

A lifelong Lutheran, Brigetta was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Lakeland, FL and served on the Worship and Music Committee, Evangelism Committee, the morning Women’s Circle, and she was an officer in the Women of the ELCA. She enjoyed making quilts and helped make hundreds of quilts for Lutheran World Relief. Each of her grandchildren  received a quilt from Brigetta. She was a talented cross-stitcher, and her family has many beautiful works of art she completed. She volunteered at The Church Service Center in Bartow, FL where free clothes were given to those in need. When she moved to Estes Park, she became a member of Shepherd of the Mountains Lutheran Church.

She loved visiting with her family, especially her great-grandchildren. She is survived by her son, Rev. Daniel Mangler and his wife Carolyn; her brother Fred Gehlhaar and his wife Mary, of Grand Ledge, Michigan; her grandchildren, Heather Mangler Curtis and her husband Drew and their children, Storm, Chance and Sierra of Versailles, KY; Joshua Mangler and his wife Kristi, of Madrid, IA; and Megan Mangler and her friend Matt Watson of San Francisco, CA.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 11, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. at Shepherd of the Mountains Lutheran Church. Memorial gifts may be made to Shepherd of the Mountains in care of Allnutt Funeral Service, 1302 Graves Avenue, Estes Park, CO 80517. She will be buried in Grand Ledge, Michigan, next to her parents.
