Big Snow For Rocky!
The following photo was taken by park volunteer Jon Olsen on Sunday, February 10, at the Bear Lake kiosk.
The snow total at Bear Lake is approximately 75 inches.
We have received 18 inches of snow since Saturday at the Kawuneeche Visitor Center located at 8,720 feet on the west side of the park. The snow total is 44 inches.
Just a reminder for those venturing in the backcountry – please check the Colorado Avalanche Information Center (CAIC) website – www.avalanche.state.co.us for current avalanche conditions:
Currently the avalanche danger is HIGH and there is an Avalanche Warning in effect.
Backcountry travelers need to stay alert to changing conditions and take appropriate precautions as snowfall accumulates. Travel in or below avalanche terrain is not recommended. Avoid traveling on or crossing under steep slopes.
