Benefit Social For Local Anni Trahan

By: Dena Bohn

This Saturday, January 24, from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. a benefit social will be held for Anni Trahan and her family at The American Legion Hall. Anni has been battling Crohn’s disease for the past 25 years until it became unbearable and out of control. Crohn’s disease is a chronic inflammation in the intestines resulting from immune system malfunction. For some people with severe symptoms, the disease can be debilitating and interfere with daily life.

Anni spent most of 2008 with symptoms so severe that she was unable to function in life and in too much pain to work. In October this disease landed her in the hospital for emergency surgery to remove a portion of her intestines. Her surgery required a two week stay with no insurance for either due to her pre-existing condition.

You might know her as my best friend and partner of Pandora Entertainment Karaoke/DJ, wife of Rich Trahan, mother to Thomas and Keith Schneider, a good friend to many and the co-owner of Bella Creations. Anni and her partner of Bella Creations, Stef Shoemaker were both sick at the same time last year, Stef sadly passed away last fall due to her cancer, she is and continues to be missed terribly.

We are holding this benefit to help pay for some of Anni’s major medical bills and supplement other additional expenses associated with being sick. She has always been the first person to volunteer her time or an item from her shop when it comes to benefits and fundraising. She was right there last year to help at Becky Ramey’s benefit even though she was very sick that day. She is an officer of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, a member of the Witches of Estes, who Trick or Treat each Halloween to benefit our troops or veterans, she delivers Easter baskets annually to our seniors in assisted living and more. So please join us at the American Legion on Saturday, January 24th for a fundraiser for Anni that will include lunch from 1-3 p.m. with snacks available all day. Bingo at 3 p.m. and a silent auction of wonderful items donated by local merchants and friends, raffles won by “Spinning the Big Wheel” and Karaoke or Live Music will be featured all day. Food for the benefit will be provided by the American Legion, Ladies Auxiliary, SAL and friends for just $10.00 per ticket.

One thing I hear over and over again while attending the wakes of my departed friends is how this is the only time old friends gather anymore. Lets gather for a celebration of life for a friend who’s living and help her in her time of need.
