Beautiful Black And White Photography Of Joel Alpers On Display At The Library
The Estes Park Public Library will be displaying the expressive, limited edition black and white landscape images of local photographer Joel K. Alpers throughout the month of August.
Mr. Alpers explores the landscape using large format black and white film and traditional darkroom printing techniques. He is primarily self-taught, as well as having attended an intensive two-week workshop with noted photographer John Sexton (longtime assistant to Ansel Adams). Favorite subjects are what he likes to call “intimate landscapes” – small scenes that often go unnoticed. He chooses black and white because of the simple beauty and richness possible in the medium, which reveals intricacies in texture and accentuates form and shape.
The Estes Park Public Library is located at 335 East Elkhorn Ave. Library hours are from 9 a.m.-9 p.m., Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 1-5 p.m. on Sunday. The exhibit is located on the second floor.
