Alvin Joseph Mundt
The William Mundt family moved to Estes Park, Colorado in 1929 when A. J. was five years old. His father had been hired on with the Estes Park Lumber Yard, which at that time, was located downtown on West Elkhorn Ave.
A. J. graduated from Estes Park High School in 1942. He worked on the Adams Tunnel after his graduation , and later that same year, enlisted in the U. S. Navy. He served until 1945 and after discharge, returned to Estes Park and married his childhood sweetheart, Vera Lois Myers, daughter of Lou and Hattie Myers, on Oct. 3, 1945. Vera and A.J. were very happily married for 67 years.
After settling in Estes Park in 1945, Mr. Mundt worked for the Bureau of Reclamation on the Big Thompson project. He worked on that until 1951 when he and the family moved to Peru for two years and then spent a few years in Thornton, Colorado in a plumbing and heating business. The family moved to Poway, CA in 1953. A.J. then spent many years as a Master Plumber working for firms in CA, AZ and then about 10 years in Saudi Arabia working on hospitals and schools in Dharan, Saudi Arabia. He retired to Rancho Bernardo, CA in 1986.
Mr. Mundt is survived by his wife Vera (Myers) Mundt of Rancho Bernardo, CA, son Marc (Ann See) Mundt of Ramona, CA and son Steve (Jeanne Rudiger) Mundt of Brookings, OR.
