A.J. DeYoung, 81, of Fredericksburg, Texas died Friday, October 3, 2008 at his residence.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 7, 2008 in Nederland, Texas with Rev. Don Higginbotham officiating. Interment followed at Memory Gardens Cemetery. A memorial service will be held in Fredericksburg, Texas on Saturday, October 11, 2008.
Mr. DeYoung was born in Baton Rouge and lived in Port Arthur from 1927 until his retirement in 1983. He then moved to Estes Park, Colorado for 20 years before moving to Fredericksburg, Texas five years ago. He retired from Fina Oil Co. as a maintenance supervisor with 35 years of service. He also served his country in the U.S. Marines during WWII.
Mr. DeYoung was preceded in death by his parents, John Edward and Ora Mae DeYoung, and his brother, John DeYoung. He is survived by his wife Betty of Fredericksburg; one son, Jim DeYoung and wife Lauren of Houston; one daughter, Suzanne Walstad and husband David of Houston; two grandchildren, Lauren Walstad and Kyle Walstad both of Houston; two brothers, Carl DeYoung and wife Beverly, and Earl DeYoung and wife Frankie both of Port Arthur; also several niece’s and nephews.
