John Homer Fritts of Allenspark passed away October 1, 2008 at the Hospice Care Center in Louisville. He was 83.
John was born January 21, 1925 in Yuma, Colorado to Earl and Segra Fritts of Yuma. John grew up in Yuma graduating from Yuma High School.
John served in the U.S. Navy Medical Corps during World War II. John returned to Yuma after the War and started school at University of Denver in 1946, graduating in 1950. John met Betty Jean Mergell while attending DU. They were married in 1948.
John and Betty returned to Yuma in 1950 where John joined his father Earl in business at “The Mans Store.”
John was active in the community as a member of Chamber, Lions, Rotary, IOOF, Mason, Elks and American Legion. John served as President of Rotary, Chamber and was Post Commander of American Legion. John was a lifetime member of the American Legion and served as District Commander twice, State Commander in 1978- 1979 and numerous state and national committees.
John was a 50+ year member of the Yuma Methodist Church.
John retired in the 1980s, closing The Mans Store. John and Betty moved to Allenspark in 1994 where he became a member of Allenspark Community Church, Area Club and Senior Advisory Committee. John served as a Board Member of the Church and was a Past President of the Allenspark Area Club.
John was preceded in death by his parents Earl L. and Segra Fritts, brother Edward, infant daughter Janice and infant son Darrel.
John is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty of Allenspark; daughter Jacqueline of Lafayette; son Dan and his wife Victoria of Colorado Springs; son Dennis and his wife Megan of Loveland; sister Kathryn and her husband Norman Day of Englewood; 8 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.
A memorial service was held on Monday, October 6, 2008 at the Allenspark Community Church with Rev. Rex Roth officiating. Cremation at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory. Memorial Contributions may be made to The Allenspark Community Church or to HospiceCare of Boulder and Broomfield Counties.
