Rose K. Smith, 96, of Estes Park, Colorado, passed away in her sleep at Good Samaritan Village on September 28, 2008.
She was born on August 14, 1912 in Dorchester, Nebraska, the daughter of Frank and Emma Krivohlavek.
She married Nebraska attorney E.R. Smith (“Smitty”) on Oct 15, 1940 on her parents’ farm near Dorchester, Nebraska.
Rose and Smitty moved to Estes Park in 1947 after falling in love with the small Colorado town. She worked as a bookkeeper and homemaker and had taught Sunday school at the Presbyterian Church in Estes Park.
Together with her husband, she owned the Estes Park Liquor Store on Elkhorn Avenue for more than 25 years. They also worked in real estate and development in the Estes Park area. She was known as an astute and fair-dealing business person.
She enjoyed horseback riding throughout her life, especially in the mountains around Estes Park and Grand Lake.
She is survived by her son Greg and wife Jackie of Durango, Colorado.
Her spunk and sense of humor were a source of pleasure for everyone who knew her. She will be missed.
