Estes Park Police Dept. Recognized For Continued Excellence

The Estes Park Police Department was recognized for excellence at the August 14 Town Board meeting. The department received re-accreditation for professional standards from the Colorado Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP). Frederick Police Chief Gary Barbour, Chair of the CACP Professional Standards Committee, presented the accreditation certificate to Estes Park Police Chief Wes Kufeld. Of 232 law enforcement agencies in Colorado, only 15 percent are accredited through this rigorous process.

The CACP process holds departments accountable to the professional standards of the committee. To receive accreditation, a department’s policies must be in line with 186 mandatory standards, and additional standards are optional. Chief Barbour noted that Estes Park’s Police Department exceeded all of the mandatory standards as well as some optional standards. He commented, “Chief Kufeld and his staff are committed to offering quality law enforcement services to this community.”

The Estes Park Police Department was first accredited in 2005.
