Eagle Rock School And Local Roots Co-Op Participate In Green Jobs Now Events
Green For All, 1Sky, and the We Campaign have announced that September 27th, 2008 will be a national day of service and action. The theme is “Green Jobs Now.” On that day, tens of thousands of people will stage hundreds of grassroots events throughout the country. People from all walks of life will demonstrate to the next President, to Congress, and to the nation that we are ready to build an inclusive green economy, strong enough to lift people out of poverty and curb global warming.
Saturday, September 27, the day after the first presidential debate, is a day of national mobilization to say, “We’re ready for the green economy.” We are ready to tackle the climate crisis by building a green economy strong enough to lift people out of poverty.
Green Jobs Now is a National Day of Action that will empower everyday people to stage hundreds of grassroots events throughout the country. Green Jobs Now has placed a special emphasis on low-income communities, communities of color and indigenous people. This will send a message to our leaders that, when it comes to creating green jobs for a more sustainable economy, WE THE PEOPLE ARE READY!
Right now, there are millions of people ready to work and countless jobs to be done that will strengthen our economy at home, even right here in Estes Park! There are thousands of buildings that need to be weatherized, solar panels to be installed, and wind turbines to be erected. There are communities that need local and sustainable food and people ready to farm the crops. There are public transit systems and smart electricity grids in need of engineers and electricians. Americans are ready to build the new economy. It’s time to invest in saving the planet and the people. It’s time for green jobs now!
Here’s what’s happening in Estes Park on September 27, 2008 (All events are open to the public):
1. Public presentation from 9:00-10:00 a.m. Community forum on green jobs and building the new economy at the Eagle Rock School, at the Lodge Hearth, 2750 Notaiah Rd., Estes Park, CO 80517.
Scheduled presenters are the Institute of Ecolonomics from Loveland, CO.
The goals of the program are:
• To raise awareness of green-collar jobs and opportunities and means of achieving sustainable economics
• Explore strategies around local priorities, business conditions, and economic strengths
• Increase demand for green-collar jobs (job creation)
• Reach out to future workforce to inspire and initiate ways to meet that demand (job training)
2. A Day to Build The New Economy from 10:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. featuring booths, speakers, music, food and fun. The event is free and open to all.
This event will be held at our Local Roots Co-op at 429 West Elkhorn Ave., Estes Park, CO 80517.
The National Day of Action brings together diverse groups and individuals to urge our government to make an even greater investment in green jobs and clean energy. The events are spotlighting low-income communities and communities of color. These two groups would be hardest hit by a climate catastrophe. But they have the most to gain in the green jobs/climate change conversation.
“Green Jobs Now is happening the day after the first Presidential Debate,” said Josh Lynch, Organizer for the Green Jobs Now Day of Action. “People all over the country are planning teach-ins, block parties, service events, and celebratory rallies for September 27th. The events will show the diversity that is America, but everyone will have the same message for Obama and McCain: Green Jobs Now.”
The list of partner organizations joining Green For All and its partners in spreading this message already features major business, labor and environmental organizations and is growing everyday.
