William J. Culhane
Bill Culhane, 84, of Estes Park, CO died at home Tuesday, November 1, 2011.
William J. Culhane was born April 21, 1927 in Boston, MA. His parents were Arthur and Beatrice (Carney) Culhane. Bill graduated from Northeastern University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. On April 26, 1958 he married Lillian “Dolly” McMahon at St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church in Buffalo, NY. The couple’s first home was in North Tonawanda, NY. They also lived in Grand Island, NY; Seabrook, TX before moving to Estes Park in 2002. Bill was a mechanical engineer for DuPont Company for 40 years.
He served his country toward the end of World War II in the Army Infantry, guarding German prisoners in Italy. During his service he received pilot’s training. Throughout his life, he enjoyed mountain climbing, skiing, reading, traveling, symphony and opera.
He is survived by his wife Dolly of Estes Park sons Peter James Culhane (Diane) of Walpole, MA; Brian McMahon Culhane (Carolyn) of Westminster, CO; James Andrew Culhane of Harrison Township, MI; daughter Kathleen Culhane-Shelburne (Kevin) of Golden, CO. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and a sister Anne Butler of Whitman, MA. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Catherine Joyce.
A Memorial Mass of the Christian Burial will celebrate Bill’s life Friday, November 11, 2011 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of the Mountains Church in Estes Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Estes Valley in care of Allnutt Funeral Service 1302 Graves Avenue Estes Park, CO 80517.
