Ruth Ann Whiteside Southwick
Friends and family are mourning the passing on of Ruth Ann Whiteside Southwick on March 17.
Ruth was born on December 3,1928, the only child of CM. (Bud) and Edith Hazel Adamson Whiteside.
She attended Fort Lupton, Colorado public schools, graduating from Fort Lupton High School. She attended the University of Denver. She worked seasonally as an accountant for the Great Western Sugar Company and Kuner-Empson Company. She chose to work seasonally in order to spend the winter months in Southern California. She joined Scotts Liquid Gold.
In 1975 Ruth married Sheldon Southwick who, as did her parents, preceded her in death. After retirement Ruth and her husband divided the year between homes in Estes Park,
Colorado and Gold Canyon, Arizona. Each residence became a haven of hospitality for a wide circle of friends and family.
Ruth loved music and was a patron of the Phoenix Symphony. Even more than music, Ruth loved to travel, especially on cruise ships. After her husband’s death, Ruth often invited friends to be her guests on a cruise.
The descendant of homesteading pioneer families, Ruth was fiercely, proudly independent and disliked the restrictions imposed by her terminal illness. Those restrictions did not limit the generosity of her purse or person. Ruth will be sorely missed by the friends and family who loved and admired her.
A memorial service is planned for a later date.
