Doris Prichard Snyder died September 6, 2010. Cremation has taken place. A private tree planting service will be held at a later date. Doris Prichard Snyder was born December 2, 1916 near Enterprise, KS to George W. and Otie Fisher Prichard. She started school in Abilene, KS. The family moved to a farm near Falls City, NE in 1925. After high school, she attended Peru State Teacher’s College graduating in 1938. The following year she taught Latin in the high school at Ogallala, NE.
She married Jerome R. Snyder in 1939 at which time they moved to San Marcos, TX. While there she earned a Master’s Degree from South West Texas Teacher’s College.
After World War II, she resumed her teaching career. It was varied, teaching in high schools, elementary schools and nursery schools. She was especially concerned with the education of minority students at Austin and later Midland, TX.
After retirement, the couple moved to Fort Collins, CO where gardening took a lot of her time. The Master Gardener’s Program that she participated in for twoyears helped get her started. She spent most of her time growing and processing fruits-gooseberries being her favorite.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brothers. Survivors include daughters Jeri L.S. Morey and her husband Dr. P.S. Morey and Cynthia Erbes and her husband Ron Erbes; grandchildren W.P. Morey and wife Sonia and their children Jessica and William, Jr.; Christopher J. Morey and his wife Sarah and their children Andrew and Emileigh.
Doris’ family suggests anyone considering a memorial might plant a tree to help the environment.
