Delmar E. Mason
Delmar E. Mason, 71, of Akron, Colorado passed away Saturday, March 20th 2010 at Northern Colorado Long Term Hospital in Johnstown, Colorado.
Delmar was born to Robert Harvey Mason and Barbara Hedwig Florian Mason on July 26th 1938 in Akron, Colorado. Delmar was married to Sheryl Krause on December 4th 1960 in Raton, New Mexico. December 2010 would have celebrated 50 years. To this union was born Melissa Lynn and Clark Eugene.
Delmar received his grade school education at Hillside school south of Akron. At a young age, Delmar did the work of a grown man and continued to work hard all his life. In November 1960 he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served for two years at Ft. Campbell, KY where he received an honorable discharge. During his time in the military, Delmar received an award for sharpshooter and a letter of commendation from his commanding officer.
After returning to Colorado, Delmar built a successful trucking business. He drove a truck for several years then retired from driving to run the business. Eventually he sold the trucks and opened a diesel repair shop. In 1986 Delmar and Sheryl made a new start in Estes Park where they owned and operated Rocky Mountain Discount Liquor, better known as “Del’s” for ten years. Delmar’s change in health eventually brought them back to Akron in 2006 where he was well known around town for getting stuck in the snow and ice with his power chair (thanks to all who rescued him!).
Delmar loved hunting, fishing, gardening, and visiting with anyone and everyone. The greatest gift in his life was his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Delmar is preceded in death by his parents Bob and Barbara Mason, Step father J.I. Leigh, Brother Dale Mason, in-laws Glen and Mary Krause, brother in law Gordon Krause, and great niece Sara Churchill.
