William “Bill” D. Richards
William D. “Bill” Richards, 86 of Estes Park was born in Joliet, IL on January 12, 1923.
Bill passed away on October 17, 2009 at the Heart Center of the Rockies, Loveland, CO. He was a devoted father and loving husband to June (nee )’Brien), his wife of 64 years.
He is survived by his wife and daughters, Susan Richards of Mt. Kisco, NY, Patricia (Richard) Kwasigroch of Joliet, IL, son Thomas (Debra) Richards of Boulder, CO, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, sister Mary Jane (Donald, deceased) Egbert of Phoenix, AZ and nephew Mark Schultz (Cindy) and great niece, Suzanne Schultz of Joliet, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents Reginald and Irma (Kemner) Richards.
Bill and Carolyn June O’Brien were married on June 10, 1945 in the Joliet Grace Methodist Church. They lived in Joliet until 1984 when he retired from Argonne National Laboratory after 21 years of service and moved to Estes Park, CO. He was a graduate of JTHS, class of 1941. Bill was a veteran of the Army 555th AAF Base Unit, attached to the 20th Air Force serving in WWII with the 413th Signal Corps in the China-Burma-India theater as a radio operator.
He was a member of the Estes Valley Amateur Radio Club, former member of Joliet Amateur Radio Club (JARS), Gypsies group, Joliet Chapter of S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A., Joliet Blackhawk Barbershop Chorus, and “Chow Hounds” and “Crossroaders” quartets, lifetime member of American Radio Relay League, Quarter Century Wireless Assoc., Society of Wireless Operators, International Morse Preservation Society and the NRA.
Per his wishes, there was no funeral or memorial service. Cremation rites have been accorded. His cremains will be interred in Elmhurst Cemetery, Joliet, IL in the family plot with a private service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Wm. D. Richards be made to the Estes Park Medical Foundation (Ambulance Fund), P.O. Box 3650, Estes Park, CO 80517.
