Author C.J. Box To Speak At Library Foundation Dinner
Award-winning Wyoming writer C.J. Box is a man who has lived close to the life he writes about. The author of 11 novels, most of them a series featuring a Wyoming game warden, Box rides, skis, fishes and enjoys rodeo. He will be the featured speaker at the Estes Park Library Foundation 14th annual benefit dinner at the Lake Shore Lodge on Sunday, September 27.
Box was born in Casper, Wyoming and currently lives near Cheyenne. He graduated from Denver University in 1981 to become, what he told a writer for the Denver University Magazine “a hot shot investigative reporter.” While working for the Saratoga, Wyoming Sun, he began getting to know rangers and game wardens and his main character, game warden Joe Pickett, was born.
His books have won almost every major mystery writing award including the New York Times Notable Book award, the Macavity Award, the Anthony Award, the Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers 2007 Writer of the Year, and been featured in America’s Best Mystery Stories of 2006. His stand alone novel Blue Heaven, won the country’s major mystery award, the Edgar, in 2008 and has been optioned for a film.
Box’s characters deal with current western issues such as the environment, development, wildlife issues. His main character is like many westerners—independent, honest, nature-loving, law-abiding, but, occasionally, mistaken.
Box’s fans are wide-ranging and include young readers. According to the DU Magazine, all the members of a high school football team in Helena, Montana are fans. He also has a large following in Europe where his books have been translated into 21 languages.
The benefit dinner will begin with a social hour featuring a cash bar and complimentary hors d’oeuvres at the Lake Shore at 5 p.m., with dinner at 6, followed by the program featuring Box.
