Sherrill L. Rakestraw
Sherrill “Rake” Rakestraw passed away May 29, 2009 at St. Anthony Hospital in Denver, Colorado with his wife and children at his side. He was 72 years old.
Rake was born on September 21, 1936 in Hastings, NE to Byron and Helen Rakestraw. Rake served in the U.S. Navy. In Hastings, NE, he was a high school teacher, a production manager for Conestoga Woods, and a salesman for Farm Bureau Insurance. In Estes Park, he worked for the Rocky Mountain Nature Association. Rake and his wife Bernice, have lived in Estes Park, CO for the past 17 years.
He loved the Colorado mountains and working in his High Plains Wood Works shop. He especially enjoyed serving his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ in many different ways at his church. We are assured by our faith that Rake walks in Heaven today.
Rake was preceeded in death by his parents and his sister, Jackie Fricke.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Bernice, his daughter, Launa (Doug) Leibbrand of Colorado Springs, CO his son, Scott (Diane) Rakestraw of Blair, NE. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Andy and Corey Leibbrand and Mariah and Tim Rakestraw.
A celebration of Rake’s life will be held at the Mountain View Bible Fellowship in Estes Park, CO on June 12, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with luncheon following.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mountain View Bible Fellowship-noted for the Faith Promise for Missions Fund, and sent to MVBF at 1575 South Saint Vrain Avenue, Estes Park, Colorado, 80517.
