Big Thanks From Chuck Coffey, The Big Duck
To The Editor:
It was my honor to have served as the “Big Duck” for the 2009 Rotary Club of Estes Park 2009 Duck Race.
With 5,903 duck adoptions sold we raised over $112,000 for the 66 charitable and service organizations in the Estes Valley. This achievement would not have been possible without the continuing dedication and hard work of the Rotary Duck Committee. There are so many aspects that the public never sees to making this highly successful event happen each year and for this, our 21st anniversary, the Duck Committee came through again. This amazing group of some thirty volunteers have been meeting since September of 2008 planning the 2009 Duck Race. No matter the problem or obstacle these Rotary volunteers always get the job done.
Our wonderful merchants exceeded our expectations once again by donating a record 846 prizes.(including the major prizes). A complete list of the prize winners can be found on the Rotary Club’s website at: www.rotaryclubofestespark.org
A special thanks to the one hundred or so community volunteers including non-Rotarians that helped on race day May 2nd to insure a successful event.
Our entertainers did a wonderful job. The Riverside Ramblers, Estes Park Jazz Band, Estes Park Jug Band, Dick Orleans, Bruiser the Big Dog (Bob Aiken), Balloon Art (Clay Cooper), the Estes Park High School Choir and the Estes Park High School Rotary Interact Club who helped with river security this year.
I now pass the Rotary Club Duck Committee Chairmanship for 2010 to “Little Duck” Tom Anderson who will become the “Big Duck” for next year’s event. This has been a fantastic year for me and it was a pleasure to have served the Rotary Club and the community as the “Big Duck” for 2009.
