Basil C. Wehrman
Estes Park summer resident Basil C. “Bud” Wehrman died at Estes Park Medical Center on Tuesday, June 10, 2008. He was 85 years old. Bud was born on December 22, 1922 in Nelson, NE. His parents were Basil C. and Dorothy (Mauck) Wehrman.
During WWII, Bud served in the Army Field Artillery Corps. Bud graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1947 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He attended the American Institute for Foreign Trade in Phoenix, AZ for one year. He worked for 36 years, beginning in 1948, for the First National City Bank of New York, now known as Citigroup. Bud lived 17 years in Brasil, three years in Venezuela and traveled the rest of the world as a Senior Vice President of the International Division.
Bud married Paula Jones on July 5, 1947 in Arlington, NE. They honeymooned in Estes Park, CO and eventually bought a cabin in 1959 adjacent to the YMCA of the Rockies property. In addition to living in South America, Bud has lived in Connecticut, Austin, TX, and Mill Creek, WA. Bud enjoyed golfing with friends at Onion Creek and was an avid reader. Bud was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church.
Bud is survived by his wife of 61 years, Paula Wehrman of Mill Creek, WA; son Basil C. Wehrman and wife Anne of Champaign, IL; daughter Karla Dierking and husband Lynn of Everett, WA; two granddaughters, Morgan Walters and husband Alex and Mackenzie Dierking both of Everett, WA; brother Ken Wehrman and wife Emily of Arnold, NE. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service and scattering is planned for Monday, June 16, 2008 at 11:30 a.m. at Hyde Chapel at the YMCA of the Rockies. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in care of Allnutt Estes Park Chapel, 1302 Graves Avenue, Estes Park, CO 80517, or the charity of your choice.
