Volunteers Needed For Estes Park Marathon Weekend, June 14 & 15
A sure sign that summer has arrived is Father’s Day, and the Mama Rose’s Estes Park Marathon races that take place that same weekend. This year the race committee has expanded the race portfolio to include a KIDS FUN RUN! in conjunction with the YMCA of the Rockies. The KIDS FUN RUN! takes place on Saturday, June 14 at downtown Bond Park.
The runs start at 2:00 p.m. and finish by 3:00 p.m., followed by a festival with interactive games, obstacle course, educational activities, and live music from Tamba!, a middle-school performance band from Kutandara Center in Boulder. The other race events will be held on Sunday, June 15. Now in its fifth year, the choice of events include a marathon, half marathon, 10K, and 5K, offering a race distance for participants of all ability levels!
The race committee needs local volunteers to help with many of the duties on race weekend. Terry Chiplin, Race Co-Director with colleague Belle Morris, said: “It’s a wonderful opportunity to come out and help support a major athletic event in the Estes Park community. I started my involvement with the Mama Rose’s Estes Park Marathon as a volunteer at an aid station – everyone that takes part in the races are so grateful for the help from volunteers, and have a wonderful experience running in this beautiful environment. It brings out the best in people, whether tears of joy or whoops of laughter! Being a volunteer is so rewarding in many ways that I had not appreciated until I took up the challenge – now I am so glad that I did. I invite anyone that has time to spare the weekend of June 14 and 15 to come and lend a hand, you won’t regret it!”
Volunteers are needed for both Saturday, June 14 for the KIDS FUN RUN!, and Sunday, June 15 for the longer races. Examples of positions needed are race marshals, finish line, registration, sweepers, rovers, and clean up – whether it’s all day, both days, or a couple of hours that you can spare, the race committee will welcome you with open arms.
