All Invited To Ribbon-Cutting Celebration Of New Intersection
The public is invited to a ribbon cutting celebrating the completion of the new intersection reconfiguration at East Elkhorn and Riverside Drive on Friday, February 13 at noon.
The Town of Estes Park partnered with the Colorado Department of Transportation on this project; CDOT provided new poles and signals as well as the labor, which was preformed by their maintenance crew. Estes Park Urban Renewal Authority painted the poles.
The concept of the new intersection was a result of a comprehensive Estes Park downtown traffic study performed by PBS&J; the surveying was completed locally by Van Horn Engineering; and the project design was preformed by Nolte & Associates of Fort Collins.
“This new configuration will allow up to 1,200 cars during peak operations, “said Scott A. Zurn, P.E., “as opposed to the previous capacity of less than 400 per hour.
“In addition, the improved pedestrian safety island will help with walking traffic.”
As a reminder, the new pedestrian signal at this intersection does not allow for crossing both ways at the same time, or diagonally, as previously allowed.
