Dorothy Maurice Cody
Dorothy Maurice Cody passed away on January 13, 2009 at the Bonell Good Samaritan Center, Greeley, Colorado. She was born in Pittsburg, Texas on May 9, 1911 to Dawson M. and Maggie (Huie) Strange. The family moved to Commerce in 1917 where she attended schools graduating from East Texas State Teachers College (now Texas A and M at Commerce) in 1932. She married James D. Cody on December 23, 1932. He died in 2004.
Mrs. Cody taught elementary school, emphasizing elementary school music, in several small rural Texas communities. She loved being a full-time mother, wife and home-maker. They made their home in Fort Worth, TX, and lived there for 53 years before moving to Greeley in 1995 to be closer to their daughters. She was an accomplished pianist and seamstress. She volunteered in many of her children’s activities and was an active member of the Arlington Heights Methodist Church. She loved to travel and she and her husband had visited every state in the US and toured Canada in their camping trailer. She was a kind and gracious woman who was loved by all who knew her. She will be dearly missed by her daughters and the staff at Bonell Good Samaritan.
She is survived by two daughters: Dr. Carolyn A. Cody, Estes Park, CO and Ms Kay E. Cody, Allenspark, CO; two nieces: Marianne Phillips of Fort Worth, Mary Herren of Denver, and one nephew, Bill Grisham of Stephenville, TX. She was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, James D. Cody; her parents; her sisters: Annie E. Harrison, Berta L. Bourland; M. Odessa Jones; Era May Taylor; S. Louise Grisham; Mary D. Debenport; and one brother Paul A. Strange.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, January 22nd at Greenwood Memorial Park’s Garden Chapel in Fort Worth, TX. Memorial gifts maybe made to the Education Scholarship Fund for CNA’s and LPN’s at Bonell Good Samaritan Center, 708 22nd St., Greeley, CO 80631
