Albert “Bud” Murphey
Estes Park resident Albert “Bud” Murphey died at his home on Friday, October 31, 2008. He was 84 years old. Albert Neely Murphey was born August 3, 1924 in Pawhuska, OK. His parents were Albert Newton and Gladys (Luckan) Murphey.
Bud graduated from Kansas University with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII, being stationed in Italy. He married Jo Ellen Shirley on June 4, 1948 in Chanute, KS. Bud worked for General Electric from 1948-1954. He worked for Sandia Laboratories, retiring after 30 years. He lived in Oklahoma City, OK, Albuquerque, NM and Aurora, CO. He has been a resident of Estes Park since 1986.
Bud loved Rocky Mountain National Park and was an avid hiker, snowshoer, and cross country skier. He loved cats. He enjoyed all sports with his sons as they were growing up. Bud and Jo Ellen have been married for 60 years.
Bud is survived by his wife, Jo Ellen Murphey of Estes Park; sons Robert Murphey of Estes Park and Stephen Murphey of Aurora, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
A memorial service was conducted at the Allnutt Estes Park Chapel on Thursday, November 7.
