Preparations underway for exciting event and crowds of spectators Professional cyclists in the USA Pro Challenge race will speed through Estes Park August 24, potentially drawing tens of thousands of spectators and international media coverage. To provide logistics information and answer community questions, the Town of Estes Park and agency partners will hold a community meeting June 6 at 5:30 p.m. in the Town Board Room of Town Hall, 170 MacGregor Ave. Residents and businesses of the community are encouraged to attend for a discussion of how the race details will affect the community during this exciting event. Discussion topics will include the race route, public safety and security, traffic flow, street and parking lot closures and special events that will be offered on race day.
This meeting will be recorded and posted to www.estes.org/videos for residents who cannot attend the meeting. Bo Winslow, Community Services Department Director, commented, “This event has the potential to be the largest single-day event that Estes Park has ever seen. ” He continued, “The Town is planning for large crowds throughout the area on August 24. And, we’re planning events to highlight the race throughout the summer, including many fun, family activities.” On day six of the Pro Challenge — August 24– cyclists will pedal through Glen Haven and Estes Park before heading toward the finish line in Fort Collins. Cyclists will not stop in Estes Park, and the race peloton may be in town for approximately an hour. The race route includes: U.S. 34/Big Thompson Canyon west from Loveland, County Road 43 at Drake to Glen Haven, Glen Haven to Estes Park via Devil’s Gulch Road and MacGregor Avenue, east on U.
