“People may not remember exactly what you did, or what you said, but they will always remember how you made them feel.”
Our mother, Liselott Bismark, did that for her family, her lifelong friends as well as for strangers who immediately felt the warmth, caring and genuine interest she extended to whomever was in her presence. When you came into the room, she gave you a big, beautiful smile; acknowledged you personally, making you feel truly welcome. You were important and her attention would focus on you. She listened, a rare gift. She would share in your triumphs, revel in your joys and give love and care to your deepest of sorrows. She understood the human condition in a way that few of us are able to do. She endured huge hardships and heartbreaks in her lifetime and throughout all, she maintained her humanity, love and care for all individuals. She was a true pilgrim. Her life began in Germany where she married, immigrating to Canada, then moving to America where she and Klaus Bismark travelled extensively. Eventually, they settled and raised their family in Colorado. They enjoyed 11 years in D’Iberville MS before moving back to Estes Park CO after Hurricane Katrina. She was an artist and fashion designer. She loved flowers, the glory of sunset, and the sweetness of birdsong. Her pleasure was found in the moments of natural beauty in this life. For a woman of elegance, she would slurp to the bottom of a Bloody Mary and say, “Yes, I would love another!” She enjoyed a glass of red wine and hours of sharing and conversation. Her wisdom transcended that of the conventional. Her intelligence was of this world, but more importantly, she understood and believed in things unseen. She put words and understanding to things and experiences that for most of us are untenable. We Love, Respect and Honor you, Liselott Bismark. Deine, Bernd Klaus Bismark, Birgit Liselott Bismark, Bianca Maria Bismark and Jakob Bernd Bismark. Auf Wiedersehen, unsere liebste Mami.
