Victim Advocates Extends Thanks For Ladies Pool Tournament

Dear Editor

It has been an active and energetic April for the staff and volunteers of Estes Valley Victim Advocates. We would like to thank the Wheel Bar for hosting the 4th annual “Ladies Pool Tournament” on April 19th and the Estes Park Board of Realtors for “Bowl-a-Thon V” on April 24th. Both of these fun events benefit Estes Valley Victim Advocates and My Sister’s Place.

Thanks also to the women who turned out to play pool and the men, women and children who turned out to bowl. We all had fun and enjoyed the wonderful buffet and Poppy’s terrific pizzas. Thanks to everyone who donated great items for the raffles.

The support we receive from our community helps serve those in their time of need. Victims of crime get assistance and support during a crisis as well as information on victims’ rights, compensation and the justice system. Women and children impacted by domestic violence find a safe and confidential place to stay. Free counseling is available to help victims become survivors. We couldn’t do what we do without our community partners! Thank you.

Estes Park Community Comes Through Again!

In these difficult times it is easy to forget our four legged friends. Businesses and residents alike donated seven truck loads of used towels and blankets to help a variety of local animal shelters. Your donations helped Boulder, Longmont and Ft. Collins Humane Societies, Estes Park Pet Lodge and Greeley K-9 Bed and Biscuit.
Shelters have seen a rise in homeless pets and a decrease in donations. Please keep them in mind for future contributions. They are always in need.

Thank you to the following-your donations made a big difference: Aspen Lodge, Black Hawk Lodge, Colorado Cottages, Deer Crest, First Colorado Realty, Holiday Inn, Inn at Fall River, Mountain Sage Inn, RiverWood, Silver Moon, St. Malo’s, Wildwood Inn and WorldMark.

Please feel free to contact us, we will pick up and deliver donations.

Gratefully Yours,
Susan Boaz-970-449-3034

Earth Day Is Important Every Day

To The Editor:

The “Celebrating Earth Day is Elementary” article by Kris Hazelton of April 24 was a great example of how working together between a dedicated person, David Born, and a dedicated art teacher, Valerie Bowles, achieved a great learning event for a large group of students.

The colorful bags created by the students will be remembered, used and loved for many years. The things learned in doing the project will help the students be better citizens in the future.

The Community Thrift Store provided the funds for buying the bags, with some additional funds coming from the League of Women Voters of Estes Park. The work of creating the bags came from the efforts of the students.
We hope that 50 people came quickly to the Estes Park News office to pick up bags that they also can use when shopping. Bring your own bags when shopping and help the town and the League of Women Voters and

Community Recycling Committee with the CAST project.  Many of the stores in town are keeping track of bags used by their customers, adding to the tally we are keeping each month. It is a small effort that each person can do to help the environment.
