Rocky Mountain Transit Management To Offer Five Hour Tour Of Trail Ridge Road

Wednesday’s in July & August, 2008

Due to a high demand from visitors to Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park, Rocky Mountain Transit Management in conjunction with Rocky Mountain National Park will be offering a five hour interpretive tour of Trail Ridge Road. The tour will leave the Estes Park Visitors Center at 9:45 a.m. for the Beaver Meadows Visitor Center. The tour will begin at 10:00 a.m. from the Beaver Meadows Visitor Center. Net-Metering For Renewable Energy Offered By Estes Park Light & Power

Credit Issued for Excess Energy Generated by Customer-Generators

A new agreement offered by Estes Park Light & Power will allow customers who – through solar, wind or other approved renewable energy systems – create more energy than they need to feed net excess energy back through the grid and be credited for it.

Credit at 1 kWh for 1 kWh for excess energy generated at a customer’s site, through the use of an approved Customer-Generator (CG) System, will be applied toward the customer’s utility account through the new Agreement for Interconnection and Parallel Operation of Small CG System.

What If Enos Mills Came Back Today?

Enos Mills is a household name in the Estes Valley. His legacy as the “father of Rocky Mountain National Park” lives on today and touches our daily lives. But, what if he came back today? He was an outspoken and controversial figure in his day. What would he have to say to those living in this time of history?

You’ll have a chance to see on local television what perhaps Mills would think of our times. The Estes Park Museum Friends & Foundation, Inc. sponsored a performance for the annual membership meeting this past October. Now this riveting performance by Alex Drummond will be shown on EPTV, Channel 8, at 7 p.m. on June 28th and 30th. This Nick Mollé production was funded by the E P M F & F, Inc.

Estes Park Village Band To Present Patriotic Concert On July 4th

The Estes Park Village Band will present its annual Fourth of July Concert at the Performance Park, Estes Park’s outdoor performance facility located on west  Elkhorn Avenue. The free concert, featuring patriotic music and marches, will begin at 7:00 p.m. Audience members are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.
The band will be performing a variety of patriotic selections, celebrating America’s history, culture and traditions through music. In what has become a Village Band tradition, American flags will be distributed to the audience before the concert begins.

Help Out Landon, A Baby And His Family, Who Really Need Your Help

This is Landon Weatherby.

He is a very sweet and adorable little boy and is loved very much by his family.

Landon was born healthy on May 30, 2007 and in November of 2007, he was diagnosed with a mitochondrial disease called Leigh’s Disease which is a degenerative disease of the central nervous system. There is no treatment or cure for this terrible disease.

Largest Midsummer Festival In Colorado Celebrates In Estes Park This Weekend

This Saturday and Sunday, June 28 and 29, Scandinavians will join hands in Bond Park in the center of downtown to celebrate the longest sunlight day of the year with a festival of light, flowers, food and music.
The 16th annual festival celebration begins at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday with the raising of the Midsummer Maypole followed by a traditional march of beautifully dressed families carrying flags from their native Scandinavian countries. Festivities begin at 10 a.m. on Sunday and conclude on both days at 5 p.m. All festival events are free.

Shuttle Begins Operations This Saturday, June 28th

Estes Park’s summer season Shopper Shuttles begin operating this Saturday, June 28.

Using the free transit system, residents and visitors alike can easily access core downtown shopping and most attractions in the community because nearly all primary access routes to the core business areas of Estes Park are located on the shuttle routes.

Jim Pearson

Jim Pearson, 70, of Estes Park died at Longmont United Hospital on June 21, 2008. Charles James Pearson was born May 21, 1938 in Denver Colorado. His parents were Nita Thompson Pearson Hicks and Charles Franklin Pearson.

After high school Jim joined the Navy where he trained as an air traffic controller. After discharge he worked at the en-route traffic control center in Longmont, in the control tower at Honolulu International Airport and then in the control tower at Stapleton International Airport. While he was at Stapleton he suffered a massive cerebral hemorrhage.

Jim and his wife, the former Carol Fredling, were married in Denver on November 10, 1962. They had two children, Traci Lynn and David Charles.

Following his stroke, Jim and Carol moved to Sterling to be near family. After eight years in Sterling they moved to Estes Park in 1978. In Estes Park he was a member of Presbyterian Community Church where he played in the bell choirs, sang in the choir, and served as a deacon. He had been a member of the Lion’s Club and volunteered at Rocky Mt. National Park headquarters for many years.

Jim’s love of music was fostered first by his mother and further by several years in the Saint John’s Episcopal Church Boys’ Choir in Denver. He could sing a sweet tenor.

Jim had held a private pilot’s license and also had a life-long interest in Geology.

Jim is survived by his wife, Carol; his daughter, Traci of Broomfield; and his son David (wife Diane) and two granddaughters, Kelly and Andrea of Commerce City.

A memorial service was held on Thursday, June 26, 2008 at the Community Church of the Rockies.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Community Church of the Rockies Organ Fund in care of Allnutt Estes Park Chapel, 1302 Graves Avenue, Estes Park, CO 80517.
